This year Durham Big Ride has a section especially for business to raise money for a worthwhile cause - and bag a trophy into the bargain.

Businesses from across the region are ready to take on last years winners of the business challenge, part of the Durham Big Ride cycling festival.

"Durham Big Ride has now become a major way of charities, both local and national, to raise awareness and money for their cause." Said Colin Wilkes, Event Director. "We are always looking to involve all different parts of the community in the events."

Organisers are once again, offering a trophy for the team that brings in the most money.

"Durham Big Ride is about taking part in one of the routes around the area. There is no timing on any of the routes so a way of making a competition of the day is to raise as much money as you can during the day. Businesses can put in teams of four and as many teams as they like, to bring some community spirit to their day." Said Colin

Peter Bramwell, of Bramwells Jewellers, is providing the trophies for the second year in a row:

"Last year was a great success for everyone concerned and we are more than happy to continue to provide the trophy for the winning business."

As a local independent business, established for over 140 years, Bramwells Jewellers have always been at the heart of the Durham City retail community and continue that involvement with sponsoring this business challenge.

The Business Challenge event is open to businesses large and small and all male, all female or mixed teams. Once registered with the Durham Big Ride, teams of four will get together and raise as much money as they can for their nominated charity.

The trophy will be awarded to the team that collects the most in sponsorship money.

"There is no reason why a firm or company cannot put two, three or four teams into the Challenge. It all adds to the event and hopefully, it will be the charities that will be the big winners." Said Colin

The Durham Big Ride is on Sunday 12 September 2010. It has three cycle routes for all ages and abilities ranging from 3, 10 and 25 miles.
